Cavtat is a small harbour town about 20 km south-east of Dubrovnik, on the site of the ancient Greek and Roman town of Epidaurum. It is a calmer alternative to staying in Dubrovnik itself.
Why visit
The palm-lined waterfront curves around a sheltered bay, and paths lead around two small peninsulas with pine trees and swimming spots. On the hill, the Račić Mausoleum is a work by the sculptor Ivan Meštrović, and the painter Vlaho Bukovac’s birth house is now a gallery.
Boats run from the harbour to Dubrovnik’s old port, and the airport is only a few minutes away.
Where to stay
Stay near the waterfront to walk everywhere; the Rat peninsula has hotels close to the sea.
Getting there and around
Cavtat is about 10 minutes from Dubrovnik Airport and 30 minutes from Dubrovnik by car or bus. In season, boats run to Dubrovnik’s old harbour.
Parking
The waterfront area has paid parking with limited spaces in summer.
