Samobor is a small town about 20 km west of Zagreb, at the edge of the wooded Samobor hills. Its pastel-coloured square and stream make it a favourite day trip for people from the capital.
Why visit
Sit on the main square for samoborska kremšnita, the town’s famous cream cake, then walk up to the ruins of the old castle above the town. Trails lead into the hills of the Žumberak–Samoborsko gorje Nature Park.
In February the town hosts one of Croatia’s best-known carnivals, the Samoborski fašnik.
