Korčula Town is a compact medieval town on a small peninsula on the island of Korčula. Its streets branch off the main street in a herringbone pattern that lets the breeze in and keeps the summer heat out.
Why visit
Enter through the Land Gate and its tower, climb to St Mark’s Cathedral and walk the seafront walls at sunset. The town claims Marco Polo as its son, and the Moreška sword dance is performed for visitors in summer.
Small boats leave for the islets of the Korčula archipelago, and the wine villages of Lumbarda are a short ride away.
Where to stay
Inside the walls for atmosphere; just outside for quieter rooms and parking.
Getting there and around
Car ferries arrive from Orebić on Pelješac, and catamarans connect the town with Split, Hvar and Dubrovnik in season.
Parking
The old town is pedestrian. Park in the paid car parks outside the walls.
