Brela sits at the northern end of the Makarska Riviera, below the Biokovo mountain. It is known for its long pebble beaches backed by pine trees – above all Punta Rata, with the small pine-topped rock of Kamen Brela just offshore.
Why visit
A promenade runs along the coast through the pines, linking one beach to the next and continuing to Baška Voda. The water is very clear, and the shade of the pines makes the beaches pleasant even in high summer.
Brela is quieter than Makarska, which is about 15 km south, so it suits families and anyone who wants a beach holiday rather than nightlife.
Where to stay
Stay near the seafront for beaches on your doorstep. Apartments higher up the slope are often cheaper but involve a climb back from the beach.
Getting there and around
Brela is on the coastal road, about an hour’s drive from Split. Buses between Split and Makarska stop here.
Parking
Parking near the beaches is paid and fills early in July and August.
