Komiža is a small fishing town on the west coast of the island of Vis, under the slopes of Hum hill. Its harbour is guarded by a Venetian tower that now houses a fishing museum.
Why visit
The town is known for the falkuša, a traditional sailing boat once used to fish around the distant islets of the open Adriatic. Today Komiža is a calm place for long seafood dinners, sunsets over the sea and swimming from pebble beaches next to the town.
Boat trips to the Blue Cave on Biševo leave from the harbour, and the road over the island takes you to Vis town in about twenty minutes.
Where to stay
Stay near the harbour for restaurants and boats, or on the edges of the bay for quieter evenings.
Getting there and around
Ferries from Split arrive in Vis town; a local bus or a short drive takes you across the island to Komiža.
Parking
Parking in the centre is limited. Use the car parks at the entrance to the town.
