The Nikola Tesla Technical Museum is Zagreb’s large museum of science and technology, in a former exhibition hall on Savska cesta, west of the city centre. Vintage aircraft hang above trams, cars and fire engines, and it is one of the best places in the city for families.
Why go
The main hall is packed with transport: old aircraft and helicopters, trams, carriages, cars, motorbikes and a collection of historic fire engines. Other rooms cover energy, engines, mining and agriculture, and the museum is named after Nikola Tesla, the inventor born in Croatia, with demonstrations of his work.
It is a good choice for a rainy day or for children who like machines. Check the museum website for the times of guided tours and demonstrations, which run only at set hours.
Getting there and around
The museum is on Savska cesta, about 20 minutes on foot from Ban Jelačić Square. Several tram lines along Savska cesta stop close by.
