Pučišća lies at the end of a deep, sheltered bay on the north coast of Brač. Built almost entirely from the white stone quarried around it, it is often called one of the most beautiful towns on the island.
Why visit
Stone has shaped Pučišća for centuries. The stonemasonry school, founded in 1906, is the only one in Croatia, and the large Veselje quarry is nearby.
From 1467 local families built fortified towers against Ottoman raids; four of the original thirteen still stand around the town. The harbour front is lined with stone houses that once belonged to aristocrats and stonemasons.
Where to stay
Stay around the harbour for the town atmosphere. Pučišća is quieter than Bol or Supetar, with a few restaurants on the waterfront.
Getting there and around
From the Supetar ferry, Pučišća is a drive east along the north side of the island. A car is the easiest way to get around.
Parking
Parking is easiest at the edge of the old town. The waterfront is best explored on foot.
