Brač is the large island directly opposite Split and one of the easiest Croatian islands to reach. It is famous for Zlatni Rat, the pebble beach near Bol that changes shape with the wind and currents, and for the white stone quarried here for centuries.
Why visit
Drive or hike up to Vidova Gora, the highest point of the Adriatic islands, for the view over Bol, Hvar and the open sea. Inland, stone villages such as Pučišća, Škrip and Dol show the island’s quieter side, and the old hermitage at Blaca is a classic hiking trip.
Supetar, Bol, Milna and Postira each have a different character, so Brač works well for families, windsurfers in Bol and sailors who stop in the deep harbour of Milna.
Where to stay
Choose Supetar for easy ferries and a town feel, Bol for Zlatni Rat and windsurfing, and Milna or Postira for a calmer stay.
Getting there and around
Car ferries run often from Split to Supetar, and there is a ferry from Makarska to Sumartin. Catamarans connect Split with Bol and Milna in season. A car is the easiest way to explore the island.
Parking
Parking near Zlatni Rat and in the centre of Bol is paid and busy in summer. Most villages are easy outside July and August.
