Ložišća is a small stone village on the western side of Brač, its houses stacked up a slope above the sea. It was founded in the 18th century by people from Bobovišća, which makes it one of the youngest settlements on the island.
Why visit
The bell tower, completed in 1899 to a design by the sculptor Ivan Rendić, is considered one of the most beautiful in Croatia. A stone bridge from the Austrian period, known locally as the Franz Joseph bridge, links the village with the road to Vičja Luka.
Olive groves and farmland surround the village, and the bay of Bobovišća is just below.
Where to stay
There are a few rooms and holiday houses in the village; Milna, a short drive away, has more choice.
