Omišalj is the first town you reach on Krk after crossing the bridge from the mainland. Its old centre sits on a cliff about 85 m above the sea, with narrow stone streets and wide views over the Kvarner Gulf.
Why visit
The parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary dates back to the 12th century and was later extended in Gothic and Baroque styles. Below the town, the remains of the Roman settlement of Fulfinum and the early Christian basilica of Mirine lie by the sea.
Pesja, the town beach, is just below the old centre, and the resort of Njivice is a short drive away.
Where to stay
Stay in the old town for views and atmosphere, or by the sea below for easier beach access. Omišalj is also a practical first or last night on the island, close to Rijeka Airport.
Getting there and around
Omišalj is a few minutes from the Krk Bridge. Rijeka Airport is right next to the town, on the island.
Parking
Park at the edge of the old town – the centre is small and best explored on foot.
